Andreas Zeller, Managing Partner
Andreas Zeller brings professional experience in entrepreneurship, investment banking and emerging market private equity. He began his career at a start-up technology venture, for which he managed operations and worked on capital raising efforts. Andreas then entered investment banking, working first with Citigroup in New York and London, then with Credit Suisse in New York. During this period, Andreas advised clients in the technology sector on equity, debt and mezzanine capital raisings, mergers and acquisitions and company restructurings.
Andreas left Credit Suisse to join the infrastructure investment team at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), World Bank Group, first as term staff in Washington, D.C. then as a consultant in Nairobi, Kenya. At IFC, Andreas was responsible for analyzing, structuring and executing “double bottom-line” investments across Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
Andreas is from New York and is fluent in English and French. He covers East Africa from Open Capital’s Nairobi Office.
Annie Roberts, Partner
Annie Roberts brings professional experience in global management consulting, having advised Fortune 100 clients in developed and emerging markets with The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). At BCG, Annie led multi-divisional client teams on projects spanning manufacturing, supply chain, organizational strategy, new product development and customer marketing. She has worked across industries with clients in international finance, information and communication technology, consumer packaged goods and industrial goods, among others.
Annie has traveled extensively and worked on advisory assignments for SMEs in East & Southern Africa, offering strategic guidance related to expansion and capital-raising. On a global level, Annie has advised large multi-national corporations on strategies to expand global manufacturing and sales to East Africa in order to target the rapidly growing consumer demand in the region.
Annie is from Chicago, USA and is fluent in English and Spanish. She covers East Africa from Open Capital’s Nairobi office.
David Loew, Manager
David brings experience in management consulting, industry research, and international development. Prior to Open Capital, David worked in Germany at the Boston Consulting Group, where he advised large European and international clients on growth and financing strategies, primarily in the energy, insurance and industrial goods sectors.
Prior to joining BCG, David worked on a UK government-backed initiative analysing the technological and economic feasibility of various climate change mitigation technologies. He also worked at several scientific UN organizations performing similar research.
Originally from Vienna, Austria, David is a native speaker of English and German and speaks conversational French. He holds degrees in economics and physics from Oxford and Cambridge Universities respectively.
Neal Desai, Manager
Neal brings legal and financial expertise to Open Capital. As a Manager at Open Capital, Neal has advised a number of clients including SMEs, investors, and corporations across a range of projects in East and Southern Africa. This work has focused on developing operational strategies, implementation plans, and financial models for clients.
Prior to Open Capital, Neal graduated from Harvard Law School and worked with the international law firm Hogan Lovells. While there, he was the lead associate for more than $130 billion in corporate transactions and was also involved in a variety of legal issues, including contract matters, investigations, and litigation.
Neal also brings experience working as counsel with the U.S. Senate overseeing the Troubled Asset Relief Program.
Neal is from Illinois, USA and received his BA from the University of Chicago.
Nicole DeMarsh, Manager
Nicole comes to OCA with extensive experience in strategy consulting and development work. Prior to joining the team, Nicole worked as a consultant with Bain & Company in Canada, the US, and South Africa. While at Bain, Nicole worked across a variety of sectors, including mining, industrial goods, financial services, and non-profits. Most recently, Nicole worked in Zambia as a consultant for TechnoServe where she advised the organization on their enterprise development strategy.
Originally from Canada, Nicole earned her B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario and her M.A. from Columbia University in Adult Learning and Leadership.
Chelsea Schott, Project Leader
Chelsea comes to OCA with extensive professional experience in management consulting and development work. Prior to joining Open Capital, Chelsea worked as a management consultant with Bain & Company, where she advised multinational corporations on strategy and operations and worked with private equity funds to diligence prospective targets.While at Bain, Chelsea worked across sectors, including healthcare, telecommunications, retail, consumer products and energy.
Chelsea also completed work as a strategy consultant for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. During this contract she worked to develop a team within the Foundation dedicated to increasing access to data and analytics for the Global Development community.
Originally from the US, Chelsea earned her BBA from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia where she concentrated in finance, analytical consulting, and accounting.
Holden Bonwit, Project Leader
Holden brings experience in early-stage investing, business consulting, and mechanical engineering.
Prior to Open Capital, Holden read for his MBA at Oxford’s Said Business School and oversaw an early-stage investment fund, supporting and investing in high growth startup businesses. He also consulted for The Walt Disney Company, developing strategy in response to consumer desires & competitive offerings in the digital media space in Africa.
Before Oxford, Holden worked for eight years as a mechanical engineer, designing successful consumer products and machinery for the cleantech energy and military markets.
Katie Bach, Project Leader
Katie brings professional experience in global strategy consulting, international development, and labor market economics. Katie joined OCA from McKinsey & Company, where she led work in the US, Europe, and East Africa for public, private, and not-for-profit clients on issues related to strategy, innovation, organizational structure, and workforce development.
Prior to McKinsey, Katie spent three years working for the World Bank, first as a consultant in the Liberia country office, and then as term staff splitting time between Washington, D.C. and West Africa. At the World Bank, Katie was responsible for the design, management, and ongoing evaluation of investment operations in the infrastructure, health, and education sectors.
Originally from Boston, Katie has an MBA from MIT Sloan, a Master’s Degree from the London School of Economics, and a BA from Oxford University. She is fluent in English and professionally proficient in both French and Spanish.
Michael Jelinske, Project Leader
Michael brings experience in private equity investing and investment banking to the Open Capital team. Prior to joining Open Capital, Michael worked at RoundTable Healthcare Partners, an operationally-focused private equity firm with ~$2 billion of capital under management.
While at RoundTable, Michael invested over $100 million in equity capital and worked with several management teams to identify and pursue multiple add-on acquisitions. In addition to evaluating new investment opportunities, Michael worked extensively with portfolio company managers to streamline operations and improve profitability.
Previously, Michael completed a fellowship with Open Capital in Nairobi, working with a number of SME and investor clients across industries.
Michael received his Bachelors of Business Administration from The Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
Rodney Carew, Project Leader
Rodney brings diverse professional experience in consulting and development.
Prior to joining Open Capital as Senior Analyst, Rodney worked in the United States for Wipro Limited, a global consulting and outsourcing firm. During his time at Wipro, Rodney helped develop an enterprise-wide internal communication platform and HR repository for the largest electronics retailer in the US.
Rodney started his career at Northwestern University, where he managed donor relations for the University’s largest college. While pursuing his Master’s degree at Wake Forest University, he served as a consultant to Debbie’s Staffing, a national US staffing firm, advising senior leadership on critical business issues including benefit packages and IT infrastructure.
Rodney has also worked with the Albireo Group, a management consulting firm for social-purpose organizations, where he worked with clients on strategic planning, fund development, and operational efficiency.
Rodney is from Freetown, Sierra Leone and has lived in Kenya and the US. He received his B.A. in Political Science & International Studies from Northwestern University and M.A. in Management from Wake Forest University Schools of Business.
Daniel Musili, Senior Analyst
Daniel Musili joins Open Capital from Strathmore University where he completed a Bachelor of Business Information Technology degree with Upper Class Honors.
While at Strathmore University, Daniel initiated and led a research project in the e-commerce sector which was selected by the University as a basis for future research into such business models. His coursework included business, finance, and accounting, as well as collaborative software projects. Daniel was selected for and completed a competitive internship with the Kenya Commercial Bank, one of East Africa’s leading banks, where he rotated through several divisions and was recognized as a top performer.
Daniel is from Nairobi, Kenya and is fluent in English and Kiswahili and is an intermediate in French.
Elijah Ndarua Ihuthia, Senior Analyst
Elijah brings experience in accounting and finance, holding both a Bachelor of Science in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University and full ACCA accreditation. He is also currently pursuing a part-time Master of Science in Financial Management at Heriot-Watt University.
Prior to Open Capital, Elijah was an ACCA Lecturer and Course Leader at the Cornerstone Training Institute in Nairobi, where he taught modules on financial reporting, tax, and financial management. He has experience working as an accountant for various Kenyan start-ups. Elijah is a strong believer in market-based solutions to many social problems and is keen to help enterprises access finance and scale operations as a path to development.
Elijah is a Kenyan national and is fluent in English and Kiswahili.
Ephraim Njogu, Senior Analyst
Ephraim joins Open Capital from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), where he earned a BSc degree in Actuarial Science with Honors.
While at JKUAT, Ephraim co-founded a consumer logistics company and worked on many angles of its operations and growth. He was also a member of the SF investment group, where he conducted extensive research and financial analysis of viable growth stocks on the Nairobi Stock Exchange. His recommendations ultimately led to a return of more than 15% on the group’s invested capital. Ephraim is currently pursuing his actuarial certification through the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and an advanced diploma from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Ephraim is from Nairobi and is fluent in English and Kiswahili. His interests are in entrepreneurship, financial market analysis and investment management.
Fridah Cherono, Senior Analyst
Fridah joins Open Capital from Strathmore University, where she earned a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Administration, with a focus on finance and accounting. She is currently in process for a Certified Public Accountant certification.
During her time at Strathmore, Fridah interned with the National Bank of Kenya (NBK) and Action Aid Mombasa, as part of their accounting department. At NBK, Fridah performed customer credit analyses and developed marketing schemes for the bank’s products. Upon completion of her internship, Fridah was recognized by NBK for exemplary performance.
Fridah is from Kenya and is fluent in English and Kiswahili. She is passionate about improving business efficiency while promoting ethical practices, professional integrity and positively impacting her community through her work.
Jerioth Wakarima Mwaura, Senior Analyst
Jerioth joins Open Capital from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science with First Class Honors. She is also a CPA graduate and a candidate in the CFA program.
Jerioth brings experience in equity research and investment analysis gained working with Actuarial Services East Africa (ACTSERV). Her analyses at ACTSERV were presented to pension funds interested in investing in several listed companies on the Nairobi Stock Exchange.
Jerioth is from Kenya and is fluent in English and Kiswahili. She is interested in financial analysis and business strategy and is passionate about using her business skills and education to affect social change and drive SME growth in Kenya.
Reza Fazel, Senior Analyst
Reza joins Open Capital from Deloitte, where he worked as part of the Strategy Consulting group based in London. During his work at Deloitte, Reza advised multinational corporations and development organizations on technology strategy and transactional services, working across a variety of sectors including healthcare, telecommunications and manufacturing.
Reza was also co-founder of a Young Philanthropy Syndicate at Deloitte working towards providing pro-bono consulting and volunteering services to not-for-profit organizations. This initiative led him to assist an off-grid school in Kenya in implementing a solar power project.
Reza is from Mombasa, Kenya, holds a degree in Economics from the University of Warwick, and is an Associate member of the Harambe Entrepreneur Alliance.
Angela Kerubo, Business Analyst
Angela joins Open Capital from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) where she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Financial Engineering with Honors. She is currently in a process of acquiring an Association of Chartered Accountants Certification.
Angela has interned at NIC Bank and Pearl Capital Partners (PCP), a private equity fund focused on SME investments in East Africa. At PCP, Angela developed a term sheet and helped negotiate a $2 million debt & equity investment in a Kenyan agribusiness, among other work.
Angela has also interned at Kenya’s Insurance Regulatory Authority where she prepared insurance industry reports and detailed analyses of the performance of the Kenyan insurance industry.
Angela is from Kenya and is fluent in English and Kiswahili. She is interested in private equity, financial analysis and business strategy. She is passionate about using her business skills and education to provide strategic solutions to affect social change and drive SME growth in Africa.
Ann Munyua, Business Analyst
Ann joins Open Capital from the University of Nairobi, where she earned a Bachelor of Commerce with Honors. She is also a CPA graduate who was awarded top performance throughout Kenya in Advanced Financial Reporting and Quantitative Analysis.
Ann brings research experience on the intersection of the private and public sector. Together with several colleagues, she completed a study assessing the effect of Kenyan government ownership on the financial performance of companies.

Charles Njugunah, Business Analyst
Charles joins Open Capital from Kenyatta University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance with Honors. He is also a Level I candidate in the CFA Program.
Prior to joining Open Capital, Charles worked as an Equity Analyst at African Alliance Investment Bank primarily covering cement companies listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. During his time at Kenyatta University, he also interned at National Economic and Social Council, an advisory body to the Government of Kenya. His work centered on data analysis, macroeconomic research and preparation of presentations.
Charles is from Kenya and is fluent in English and Kiswahili. Charles is keen on using his interest in macroeconomic trends, financial analysis, corporate strategy and research to help high-impact SMEs in East Africa.
Chianda Njogu, Business Analyst
Chianda joins Open Capital from Strathmore University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Information Technology with First Class Honors. His coursework at Strathmore included management science, entrepreneurship, business law, and database administration, among others.
Prior to joining Open Capital, Chianda worked at Vivo Energy Kenya where he was part of the on-site-services (OSS) team. At Vivo Energy, Chianda’s work involved formulating strategies on how the business could scale and also improve its business technology infrastructure. Chianda has also worked at the United Nations Office in Nairobi.
Chianda is from Kenya and is fluent in English and Kiswahili. His interests are in entrepreneurship, impact investing and information technology for social and economic impact in Africa.
Christine Wangui Njuguna, Business Analyst
Christine joins Open Capital Advisors from Strathmore University where she earned a Bachelor of Business Science degree in Financial Economics with Honors. Christine has also completed an intensive course on Development Economics.
Christine was selected for a competitive internship with the University of Navarra, where she led a detailed analysis of Kenya’s World Development Indicators and factors driving development. This focused heavily on private sector involvement and ways to stimulate additional Foreign Direct Investment, among other considerations.
Christine’s work experience also includes internships at CIC Insurance Company and Kenya Commercial Bank.
Christine is from Kenya and is fluent in English and Kiswahili. She is interested in development economics, financial market analysis, and business strategy, and passionate about using her business skills to affect social change in her community.
Getrude Okoth, Business Analyst
Getrude joins Open Capital from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) where she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Financial Engineering with First Class Honors.
Getrude has interned at the Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA) and the Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MoE) as part of their Central Planning and Project Monitoring Unit. At the MoE, she conducted research on the Kenyan education system and performed a comparative analysis in relation to five developed countries such as Australia, England, and the USA. Her research helped model a formula funding function to determine allocation of educational funds for counties across Kenya to help achieve equity, quality, relevance, and access in Kenyan schools. The formula is currently being reviewed and developed in the Ministry for implementation in line with the country’s Vision 2030.
Getrude is from Kenya and is fluent in English and Kiswahili and is intermediate in French. She is passionate about business strategy, financial market analysis, investment management and entrepreneurship.
Grace Muheria, Business Analyst
Grace joins Open Capital from Strathmore University where she earned her Bachelor of Business Science degree in Finance with First Class Honors.

Jeremiah Riro, Business Analyst
Jeremiah joins Open Capital from the University of Nairobi where he completed his Bachelor of Commerce in Finance with Honors. He is a Certified Public Accountant and is currently pursuing the CFA program.
Prior to joining Open Capital, Jeremiah worked with the African Union to help design and implement policies on sustainable youth development & economic empowerment and social entrepreneurship in Africa.
During his time at the University of Nairobi, Jeremiah worked as an Accounting intern at Car & General Ltd where he assisted in general book keeping. He also interned at Digimatt360 in the Finance Department .

Previously, Joel worked for Futures First (Kenya) Limited as a Market Analyst, where he specialized in commodity futures traded on global derivatives exchanges.

Ronny Mutua, Business Analyst
Ronny joins Open Capital from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, where he gained experience across Ethiopia, Ghana, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands through student associations and internships.
Ronny brings experience from the Leadership Foundation, where he was a Project Manager based in Norway. In this role, Ronny was responsible for organizing and fundraising for the fourth annual Nordic Somali Youth Summit – a conference with the aim of promoting cross-national cooperation on education, employment, social entrepreneurship, and political participation among Somali youth.
Ronny is a Kenyan national, fluent in English and Kiswahili, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering with Honors from JKUAT.
Sarah Ndegwa, Business Analyst
Sarah joins Open Capital from University of Nairobi where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Commerce with a major in Accounting. She is also a CPA finalist and a candidate in the Certified Securities and Investments Analysts (CSIA) program.
While at University of Nairobi, Sarah led an equity research project on a leading African bank for a competition sponsored by the East African CFA Institute, and was chosen to represent East Africa in the EMEA regional finals. Sarah also worked at Deloitte East Africa in various roles, including HR and organizational structuring.

Stephanie Njerenga, Business Analyst
Stephanie joins Open Capital Advisors from the University of Nairobi where she received a degree in Actuarial Science with Honors.
Prior to joining OCA, Stephanie worked as an entrepreneur for a social impact venture focused on leveraging the power of information to affect change in society. In 2010, she also interned at the Central Depository and Settlement Corporation in Nairobi, Kenya. Beyond her work with start-up businesses, Stephanie has focused on developing business models using mobile technology and is an alumnus of the Mobile Startup Camp 2013.
Stephanie is from Kenya and is fluent in English and Kiswahili. She is passionate about using data to improve businesses and provide better statistics to improve management.
Tamara Kalunda, Business Analyst
Tamara joins Open Capital from Kenyatta University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance with Honors. She is an associate member of Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Kenya (ICPAK) and a level I candidate in the CFA program.
Prior to joining Open Capital, Tamara worked as a Financial Markets Analyst at Futures First (Kenya) Limited, where she traded future contracts in the Chicago Board of Trade grains market. She also interned with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Tamara is from Kenya and is fluent in both English and Kiswahili. Her professional interests include financial analysis and business strategy.
